How can censorship be advocated by the left? How can the silencing of opinion be part of a liberal platform?

We are talking about the contrarian book and the controversial ads (a new one out today) put out by the Swift Boat Vets for Truth. Why are the Kerry lawyers threatening suits against media outlets? Why are Kerry's surrogates calling for the President to order the ads pulled and the book banned? And if he did, the next moment the left would be on him for censorship!

If there is a problem with the content of the group's message, the courts are open. Don't Kerry and Edwards appreciate the chilling effect they are having on the democratic process? It is so strange for the GOP, the people who brought us the Patriot Act, to come out as the champions of that most liberal principle, free speech.
